What we're building
One tool, live in development — with more on the way.
The R Index is a tool we're building to help the public identify products that are genuinely durable and efficient, without having to decode marketing claims or manufacturer self-declared labels. It compares each product to its category's median across three dimensions — price, durability, and efficiency — to produce a simple signal: does this product perform better or worse than the standard offering in its category?
It's a direct application of our thesis: rather than asking people to pay more or forgo a purchase out of environmental conscience, the R Index highlights the products that are already, objectively, the best choice — the most durable and most efficient for their price category — so that the rational choice and the low-carbon choice coincide, with no moral trade-off required.
Total cost, benchmarked against the category median.
Real-world lifespan, not the manufacturer's claim.
Actual performance for the product's category.
The first categories under consideration are everyday consumer products where real-world lifespan varies significantly from one model to another, often with no direct link to the listed price:

What's next
Other projects are taking shape alongside the R Index. We'd rather show you something real than tease it early — this page updates as they're ready.
